Discover Montpellier’s Historical centre, also known as the Écusson district home to over a thousand years of history within its labyrinth of typical medieval streets.  It is home to a variety of sights including the Place de la Comédie at its heart, the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre and a variety of Historical Hotels and private mansions.  The vast majority of the buildings in this historic centre have medieval roots and were modified between the 16th and the 18th centuries.

Of particular interest in the old centre:

  10. Tour des Pins: the only remaining tower of the city medieval walls
  11. Tour de la Babotte: medieval tower modified in the 18th century to welcome an observatory
  12. Rue du Bras de Fer: Iron Arm typical medieval Street
  13. Préfecture de l’Héraut: Montpellier’s region administrative centre
